"What's a Dasher?"
This is the first question I get asked about Dilly, my 1980 Volkswagen Dasher. I've heard the question from family and friends, people hosting VW/Audi car shows, and even the Volkswagen parts departments. Although I'm happy to show her off with a quick photo and story, it makes me realize these are truly Volkswagen's most forgettable cars.
I made it my mission to make Dashers unforgettable instead.
Between parts availability and the merchandise that exists for these cars, the pickings are slim, and the buyer market is even smaller. Couldn't find a shirt with my car on it? I decided it's time to make one. It might be an uphill battle, a race against time with most Dashers gone or rotting away forgotten in fields, but I believe these cars deserve a ressurected image. Dashers are a blast from the past, a reminder of what Volkswagen in the 70s/80s was about - Soul, stories, and community.
